The First Few Days your new puppy is home.
PLEASE read over the "New Parents" page, forward, backward, and upside down til you know it by heart.
I know, you've had poodles before. Ok, now that we have that out of the way. READ IT.
You may never have any problems with your new puppy. However, not all puppies are alike, and ****you never know
what you will run into when you get home**** with you new little bundle of joy. You never know how a puppy/dog will
act in a new home. Some are fine, some take more time to adjust.
In Case you have a 'picky eater' :
Have the Puppy Milk Replacer ready. If you are getting a new puppy,
what's wrong with giving them a treat of puppy milk? Its full of vitamins that a growing puppy needs. And you will have
it on hand IF your baby decides he/she doesnt want to eat.
Another goodie is Baby Food Chicken Sticks in a jar. They are for human toddlers,
and poodles!! You can give it as a treat, snack, or break up a couple and put on their wet food to 'prime' the pump
and get them to eat all their food.
Baby Food Chicken, Beef, Lamb, or Veal. (no ham) . I always buy
the chicken. You can top off their wet food this baby food. Protein is very good for poodles. Poodles are
high energy.
Activia Vanilla Yogurt- Its a great treat, gets their gut
in order, and you will have it on hand IF you have to make up the Formula Recipe. You can buy the big carton, or the
individual servings. I do both. The individual serving size is how much I put in my Formula Recipe.
Cottage Cheese- A great snack before bed.
Its holds them thru the night. OR if you are going to be out of the house for several hours you can know that they have something
good in their tummy.
Nutri-Stat, Nutri-Cal, Vita-cal, Forti-cal etc.
All are very good in case of emergency or potty treat or if they wont eat.
Its a high calorie supplement in a tube like toothpaste. You can squirt a ribbon of it on your finger and place in the
roof of your puppy's mouth, or put the tube end in their mouth and squirt in like that. Its a very thick, sticky paste (kinda).
Karo Syrup is for a quick fix if they are down. I stick
my finger in the bottle and rub it on their gums. I have had to do that a few times. Mackie Doo has been down twice,
both was from not eating enough and using up too much energy and down he went like a lifeless doll. He isnt a tiny dog,
which goes to show you that any size can go down if all the right things are in place.
Big Medicine Dropper - I have a couple of 5 cc ones.
Cant find those anymore, so you may have to get the 3cc size. They are in the baby section where you find the medicine
droppers and spoons , nail clippers, etc. Get a couple just in case. You can also use a syringe, without
the needle of course, but I prefer the dropper. I fed BooBoo with the dropper every meal for months!!
FORMULA RECIPE: this is on the info page,
but I want to make sure you know how to make it. I buy Goat a Lac from Revival. You can buy the Puppy Milk Replacer
brand at the local Walmart, usually Hartz. It comes in the most wonderful container. I use the container
to mix up my formula. You make one cup of Puppy Milk Replacer according to instructions on the package. Add one
or two egg yolks. Put lid on and shake. Add the jar of baby food, shake again. Add the yogurt, shake. Karo
is optional. I think the Activia is sweet enough. Add the Baby Rice Cereal to thicken a bit. (keep in fridge)
Mine dont like it thick. Rennie makes her like oatmeal! I dont. Its according to what your baby will eat.
I warm it in a saucepan on the stove. Just barely to get chill off. Dont walk off and leave it. Ask me how I know
this. It gets too hot and curdles. It doesnt take long to warm.
