This night turned our lives upside down. Joel was riding in the back seat of a 2002 Mustang.
They did have their seat belts on. Going thru a green light, some other man ran his red light, no license, no insurance, and
of course, he was drunk. He hit the mustang broad side going about 75 miles per hour. An off duty police officer was
sitting across at the other light and called it in as a fatality. Joel was hanging out the back window, not moving.
He was in Parkland Trauma ER for 18 hours before he got a room. A few days later he had surgery on his pelvis to put the pieces
back together. He also had torn ACL in his right leg. He had to walk with a walker for 2 months. We had hospital bed,
wheel chair, potty chair, the whole nine yards for a month at my house. I had to bathe him and whatever else he needed along
with my job thru out the day. It was very hard, but we made it. Its now Oct '03 and he is walking again. Although he now has
bulging discs, and is limited in what he can do.

Jennifer came to stay with Joel in the Hospital. We all couldnt
be there everyday, we had to work some of the time. He came home to my house, Dad and Lydia bought food, medicine and whatever
else we needed. Dad ordered all the special equipment we had to have to take care of an invalid. It was defintely a learning
experience!!
